Gear and Equipment

Depending on the type of activities that an individual may undertake, visitors to Mulu may need
  • Whether travelling to Deer Cave or the summit, good shoes with a non slip sole are a necessity.
  • Poncho or raincoat.
  • Lightweight, cool clothing as generally, conditions are hot and humid.
  • Small day backpack.
  • Insect repellent.
  • Sunscreen and hats when travelling in the open by boat as the sun can be fierce.
  • A torch will be useful at night.

All travellers should carry a first aid kit and personal medications with them.

In addition to the above list

For Camp 5

  • Food for 3 days
  • Blanket or sleeping sheet (lightweight blankets can be hired from Park HQ)
  • Towel
  • Extra water bottle for the climb
  • Shoes to wear in the water when pushing the boat.
  • Mosquito net if you are really concerned about insects
    Sleeping mat is provided

Summit

  • Food for 4 days
  • Eating and cooking utensils
  • Blanket or sleeping sheet (lightweight blankets can be hired from Park HQ)
  • Towel
  • Some warmer clothing


Food and Water

Café Mulu is located next to the park’s accommodation and serves a range of local and international food. The Café also stocks a range of groceries and drinks suitable for trekking to Camp 5 and the Summit.
For visitors planning a trek to Camp 5 or on the Summit Trail, they will have to take their food with them.

Several small canteens near the park also sell food and groceries.
